This section is for developers who build custom blocks, script the app's drafts, or connect a tool to the developer API.

Status: the developer API, API keys, custom blocks, CLI and MCP server are built. They are for trusted developers. Ask the app owner to create an API key for you.

• API keys and the developer API: create keys, scopes, and what each route does.
• Custom blocks: declarative blocks you can add to screens. No code is downloaded.
• CLI: the appbuilder command line tool.
• MCP server: a local server that lets an MCP-capable tool read and change drafts.

Ground rules#

• Custom blocks are data, not code. Apps may not download and run code. This is also why there is no scripting language.
• Every change you make is a draft first. Publishing is a separate, deliberate step.
• If the shop has an approval rule for publishing, a publish through a key creates an approval request. It does not publish.
