Prescriptions

This feature lets a shopper upload a prescription so a pharmacist can check it before an order goes out.

Status: off by default and regulated. It is off in three places, and all three must be turned on. Do not turn it on until a qualified lawyer has reviewed it for each country where you plan to sell.

Why it is off#

Rules for selling prescription medicine depend on the country. They cover who may sell, who must check the prescription, how long records are kept, and how personal health data is protected. The app does not decide these rules for you.

The app ships with a list of rules to review for India, the United States and the United Kingdom. This is not legal advice.

Three switches#

The block. The Vital template's upload block is off in its settings.
The country list. The app accepts uploads only from the countries you list. The list is empty at first, so no uploads are accepted.
The feature switch. The prescription uploads switch is off.

A shopper sees the upload block only when all three are on, and their country is on the list.

Before you turn it on#

Confirm the storage for prescription files is private and encrypted. Your developer must set this up on the server. Confirm it before you go live.
Set the retention period. Files are deleted after the period ends.
Name the pharmacist who will review uploads, with a registration number.
Confirm that controlled substances are not sold through this flow. The app does not support them.

Review queue#

Open Prescriptions.

Queue: uploads waiting for review.
Approve: needs the pharmacist's registration number.
Reject: needs a reason.
View file: each view is logged.
Audit: every submit, view, decision and deletion is listed.

Only one decision can be made on an upload.

Who can review#

People with the prescription review permission. By default that is the owner and the admin. The Prescriptions page only opens for people with that permission, or with the approval decide permission. Changing the country list and retention needs the integration manage permission. See Team and roles.

Shopper controls#

A shopper can delete their own uploaded file. Account deletion also removes the file. See Customer privacy.
